New haircut

Finally cut my hair and donated it to the locks of love. I seriously could not wait much longer and so, as soon as I got the desired 10 inches, I made an appointment with the hairdresser.

The sun is out but still a bit windy

Lately, with constantly changing weather, I found a lot of use for scarves. Here is one of my favorites - Jason Wu scarf that is hard to wear due to floral print. It is actually the only thing I own that has floral print on it, everything else either geometric shapes or solid colors. I prefer to wear it with all black or other neutrals.

Hair brushes

My latest obsession has been donating my hair to the Locks of Love. For that I need at least 10 inches of hair and so far I only have 9. So I have been looking into ways to speed up hair growth and one of the ways was scalp massage and using the right hair brush. Apparently regular plastic or nylon hair brushes do not contribute to the hair growth, moreover, they damage hair and scalp.

I did some research and found out that it's best to use a brush with natural bristles for it does not damage the hair but massages the scalp. The best hair brush would consist 50% of boar bristles and 50% of nylon. 100% boar bristle hair brush could be too soft and not good for brushing hair.

I found the absolute best, the Rolls Royce of hair brushes - Mason Pearson and Frederick Fekkai brushes:






Each of which starts at $45 (smallest travel version) and goes up as high as $280! Brrrr, that's just crazy. I mean I will get myself one, I know I will, but later, when I convinve myself a little more.

Meanwhile I found very affordable alternative by Revlon - Amber Wave 50-50 All Purpose nylon-natural brush:


Interestingly, only Walgreens carry this particular brush and in most they are sold out. It took me a while to find a Walgreens that had two brushes left.

Will try and see, and if it works well, I will make an investment and get myself a Fekkai brush

Got lunch?

Due to my new low sodium, low carb diet, I now bring my own lunch to work. Turns out, it's nearly impossible to get any healthy food in the city. Once, when I forgot my afternoon snack at home, I was forced to look for one to purchase near my job. The closest to a decent snack was an oatmeal cookie from Juan valdez, which was over 400 calories, which is terrible, taking into account that my diet is 1350 calories per day, divided on 4-5 freequent meals. So anyway, except those times I meet a friend for lunch and head over to Saladworks or a sushi bar, I usually bring my breakfast, lunch and snacks. So, being me, I needed a super cute lunch bag that would not clash too much with neither my purse nor my outfit. Here is what I came up with: Isn't it cute?:)

Jason Wu or Suburban Madness

Today Jason Wu's collection for Target hit the stores. I am not ashamed to admit, I was ready to go by 6am but got held back by my family. We got the the Target store by 10am and there was literally nothing - one pleated skirt and a couple of neck-tie blouses but they looked awful and the skirt fit well but was the wrong length - it hit way above the knee but was not short enough to be classified as mini. To be honest, not everything in the collection was to my liking. For instance those colorful purses are not appropriate for anyone past 15 years of age. I just can't picture myself sporting one of those, even if I would be seriously intoxicated. Then the famous cat bag - in my opinion it is a bit wacky and makes me think of a crazy cat lady (don't get me wrong, I love cats! I mean I am the person who linked the words from the song "Every step I take", "In the future can't wait to see if you open up the gates for me" to the death of my cat who passed away few years earlier). Then the straw bags - I think straw should be used for a basket type bag and not for a sleek elegant handbag. Just two opposing ideas for me. But that's just my opinion, I am not forcing it upon anyone. Most of the neck-tie blouses were not to my liking as well, the only one I thought was worth any attention was the navy one. Unfortunatelly I didn't find them neither online nor in any of the stores. What I really loved was the t-shirts with lace print, navy sleeveless shift dress, all the scarfs (even the one with the abundance of cats:)), the adorable poplin dress with a red stripe, the pleated skirt (I have been on a hunt for one for as long as I can remember). At first I was not sure about the skirt because I didn't feel the length was right but the girl I met in the dressing room convinced me otherwise. She knocked on the door of my stall to see the skirt and she made me see it was a keeper. I wish i could thank her now, because back then, in the heat of the moment I was not so sure. Another little thing that found its way onto my heart was the print on the navy scarf and one of the dresses - a small wheel, just like the one on the gypsy flag. At least that's my personal association. Below are my today's purchases from the above mentioned collection. The blue blouse we got for my mother-in-law, the navy scarf for my father's wife, the grey t-shirt with lace print is for my lovely sister. I wish i could get something for my mother too, but neither style nor sizes are suitable for her. Mental note: to start getting on my mother's case about eating healthy, exercising and taking better care of herself. The dress with dot print (reminds me of a gypsy flag) found my husband. When we got to the store, practically everything was gone and this dress was returned by someone and immediately snatched by my awesome husband:))

Raspberry dream

My recent finding - Via Spiga Eileen suede pumps in raspberry. In reality it's more purple then red, like it seems on the picture.

I am trying to put together a few outfits around those gorgeous shoes. Yellow dress? Grey knee length pencil skirt? Black? There are so many possibilities

Today's shopping

Had a beautiful day shopping, found those amazing Circa suede knee boots in greyish brown, Nine West grey peep-toe pumps. I also got lime green with olive Echo silk scarf to add a bit of color to my wardrobe.


The boots are just heavenly, they are so comfy, it's almost unbelievable.



While at it, I tested out a new shade in colored opaque tights

How to knit a beret

Cast on 83 stitches and knit 3 cm in heigh using 1x1 (1 knit and 1 purl)

Then make 2 stitches out of each purl stitch so that you would have 124 stitches instead of 83. keep knitting for 6 sm using 1x2 (1 knit and 2 purl stitches)

Then to each group of purl stitches add one more stitch so the total would be 165 stitches instead of 124, and continue knitting 1x3 (1 knit and 3 purl stitches) for 8cm more to reach height of 17 cm.


Then start decreasing purl stitches by removing one purl stitch from each group of purl stitches so that the total number of stitches comes down to 124.

Knit for 3sm to get to 20 cm total height and then decrease number of stitches to 83 by decreasing each group of purl stitches by one again. Knit this way for another 5cm to get to 25 cm and after that start knitting each two stitches together to decrease the total number of stitches to 43. Keep going for 2 rows. Then repeat decrease every 2 rows to get from 43 first ot 21, then to 11, and then to 6. After you get to 6, pull the yarn through all 6 stitches, pull them all together and secure tha yarn around them.


Next knit the cable by casting on 11 stitches and knitting about 25 cm in length, using the following pattern:

row 1 - 11 knit stitches
row 2 - 11 purl stitches
row 3 - take off the first stitch to a second needle and take off stitches 2,3, and 4 to an extra needle and keep them behind your knitting, knit 5,6, and 7 using knit stitch, followed by stitches 2,3, and 4 from the additional needle, then knit the rest - 8,9,10, and 11
row 4 - 11 purl stitches
row 5 - 11 knit stitches
row 6 - 11 purl stitches
row 7 - Take off stitch 1 to the second needle and knit stitches 2,3, and 4. Take off stitches 5,6, and 7 to an additional needle and keep them in front of your knitting, and knit stitches 8,9, and 10, followed by stitches 5,6,and 7 from additional needle and finish with knitting stitch 11.
row 8 - 11 purl stitches


then repeat the above pattern.

Sew the cable onto the rest and close the side stitch as well
